How Often Should You Get a Dental Checkup?

Family dentistry means the entire spectrum of dental services for all ages. One question that’s often asked is how often should you get a dental checkup. The answer depends on your age, overall health, and dental health needs.

The first step is to make an appointment with Bassett Creek Dental for an evaluation and examination, especially if you haven’t been to the dentist in a while. We’d like to get to know you and to evaluate your oral health. At that point, we can recommend a schedule for future dental.

As a general rule of thumb, you can follow this schedule for family dentistry checkups:

  • Children ages three and over should visit the dentist every six months.
  • Adults and teens with good overall health and good dental health should get a cleaning every six months.
  • People in poor health or with medical conditions such as diabetes should get their teeth checked more frequently.
  • Individuals with a history of gum disease may benefit from more frequent checkups and professional cleanings, as recommended by your dentist.

Dental problems do not always manifest with painful symptoms. Sometimes the symptoms are silent. A dentist can catch these problems in the early stages and treat them so that you keep your teeth and gums healthy for life. That’s one reason why regular dental checkups are so important.

Bassett Creek Dental is accepting new patients. We offer family dentistry, children’s dental services, periodontics, and oral surgery in our convenient Golden Valley office. Please call our office at 763-546-1301 for an appointment for your dental checkup and examination.
